Behind those two valuation points is a 33-year-old striker, 1.81 metres tall, with 280 goals in 517 competitive appearances, currently a free agent after leaving Galatasaray. Among the clubs reported to be pursuing him is Cong An Ha Noi FC.

The information surfaced from an unnamed source. Cong An Ha Noi has not confirmed it. Transfermarkt's data on clubs linked to Icardi lists eleven names, most from Europe and South America. That is everything the public has, and also everything needed to begin a serious calculation.

A defending champion enters the transfer window

CAHN holds the V.League title. That position places the club in the buy-to-keep group, not the buy-to-build group. Add a place in the AFC Champions League Elite — Asian club football's top competition, organised by the Asian Football Confederation and formerly known as the AFC Champions League — and the need to upgrade the attack becomes real rather than a media fantasy.

On the continental stage, the problem for Southeast Asian sides rarely lies in defence. It lies in converting chances. A V.League team can hold a disciplined shape for seventy minutes, then lose in the final twenty because nobody can finish from a single situation. The logic of an Icardi-type signing sits exactly in that gap.
